About This Spot

Stepping into Pete’s Family Restaurant in Carthage feels like slipping into a familiar rhythm of easy conversation and comforting smells. It’s the kind of place where the pace slows naturally, inviting guests to settle in and savor moments as much as meals. The hum of chatter mingles softly with the clinking of dishes, echoing with decades of local stories and family gatherings.

The atmosphere carries a gentle, unpretentious warmth — think well-worn booths and steady, friendly service that remembers your name and your usual before you even ask. It’s a spot where breakfast might stretch lazily into lunch, accompanied by rich coffee and the scent of fresh biscuits or hearty country steak sizzling nearby. There’s a quiet reassurance in the way the kitchen turns out plates of fried chicken, crisp okra, or lemon meringue pie, each bite echoing familiar Southern home cooking with a touch of something uniquely Pete’s.

Here, meals come wrapped in the comfort of simple traditions — black-eyed peas and collard greens alongside crispy fried catfish, or a classic club sandwich paired with a tall glass of iced tea that leaves you feeling both refreshed and rooted in the place. The food is generous, made to share, and meant to fill the table as easily as it fills the soul.

Visits to Pete’s often turn into unplanned reunions, with servers who remember faces as fondly as recipes, making regulars feel less like customers and more like neighbors stopping by for a familiar taste of home. It’s not a polished showcase but a genuine local refuge where imperfection is part of the charm and every meal carries a story worth coming back for.

Food was ok. But if you go when it is all you can eat flounder dont waste your time. It is the same price as the regular flunder meal 14.99 . They only bring you out 2 pieces of flounder on the all you can eat just like the regular meal, then they never come back to check on you to see if you want more fish or anything. They do this I guess in hopes you dont ask for more flounder, cause on our other 2 visits they were very attentive to us to see if we needed anything... but on all you can eat flounder , they became ghosts.

Stopped in to order take out while their power was down. They still took my large order (for 7 people) and had it out in about 15-20mins. And when I accidentally left without some of the food, the owner waved me down in the parking lot before I could leave. Great place and food.

My husband and I tried this place for the first time on Sunday and I have to say the food is great. We wasn't sure how it was gonna be so we got burgers and I did try the vegetable beef soup and let me just say it took me back to when my grandma was alive yummy. Our burgers was also great. We also got some fresh made chicken to take home and let's just say we will definitely be back. Also they have the best ranch I have ever tasted lol.

Typical family restaurant vibes. Good selection of food including sides. Me and my husband got the Salisbury steak special. Taste was ok. I got the cabbage and mashed potatoes. Those were better. Husband had fried squash and cabbage. Both our plates were on the cold side but we were in a hurry and didn't have time to wait for fresh food. Plenty of ice in the drinks. Service was great, waitresses were attentive. We would give it another try if we're in the area again.

This is our third time here, and there’s a reason for that! The server not only remembered us but remembered our drink order from the first time. The food is so good and plentiful! If you try nothing else , get the fried porkchops!
